1970 Dodge Dart
Original 340 motor
I think there are 72k miles on the odometer, I forget.
Originally a 4 speed car, but converted to an automatic before I bought it. I don’t have any of the original 4 speed parts.
Original hemi orange and still hemi orange.
Car has factory side moulding, which makes it an automatic stripe delete car. No stripe in the back. That actually makes this a fairly rare car although most probably prefer the stripe.
Not a vinyl top car.
Motor was rebuilt before I bought it. .030 over I believe.
I’ve raced it a few times back in the day and the quickest it ran was 13.20 in the 1/4.
Has small bolt pattern cragars on it and I also have an extra set of black steel wheels.
Appears to have had the left 1/4 replaced. has some putty and some crappy paint in some spots. Some rust bubbling here and there. looks like putty is cracking in the roof pillar where the quarter meets the roof. Frame looks really clean. One rough spot in drivers floor but not all the way through. I sprayed it with some rustoleum years ago.
Interior is really nice except for the front seat that will need recovered. I have a cover form legendary auto. Dash is not cracked and uncut. The interior in general will need a good wipe down since it has a flim on it from sitting so long. One of the rear arm rests and window cranks went missing. I guess I misplaced them.
I also installed superstock springs and a driveshaft loop.
Here is what I believe is wrong with the car. It started acting real funny like the timing was off and it wouldn’t go and was misfiring. I limped it home and the car has literally been sitting for about 10 years. We found the ribs on the distributor “rotor” were chipped, so I believe that is what made the car misfire and act funny.
The brake pedal used to slowly drop to the floor, so it probably needs a master cylinder or lines??
I pulled the transmission and had it rebuilt with a manual reverse valve body. I also bought a cheetah shifter. I also bought a race stall converter. When we reinstalled the transmission, the flex plate holes don’t match the holes on the new torque converter. I bought a new flex plate. This is where I got frustrated and took a break from working on the car. I bought a house shortly after that and now it’s 10 years later. So the transmission will need dropped to install the new flex plate.
The interior will need finished up (new carpeting needs trimmed and installed, seat recovered and installed, shifter). Will need a good wipe down as noted above.
I can’t prove the car runs, so I understand I may not get much interest in this.
I will only deal with local people that can come to look at the car. I’m not going to waste my time taking a million pictures for people that never respond or never end up coming to look at the car. Come look at it. I won’t sell the car sight unseen.
Thanks for reading.
